<div class="p5">
<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Raw wooden letters are sometimes a little bit rough. Lightly sand them with fine-grit sandpaper working in the direction of the wood grain. Run your fingers along the sanded surface occasionally to test for smoothness. Once the wood is smooth, wipe off the dust with a tack cloth.</span></span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Prepare the wooden letter for painting by covering it with a primer coat on all its paintable surfaces. If you avoid this step, your finished letters might have a blotchy paint appearance because of how some woods soak up the paint.</span></span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><b>The Paint Choice</b></span></span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">You can choose to spray paint the wooden letters or paint them by hand. Acrylic spray paints provide an excellent base coat on which you can paint artistic details by hand. Depending upon what you envision for your finished look, there are many different paint options from which to choose.</span></span></div>
<div class="p7">
<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><b>Spray Paint</b></span></span></div>

<span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Spray paint is available in many different colors and comes in can with a spray nozzle. Paint outside or in a well-ventilated area and wear a face mask. For best results, paint in temperatures that range from 50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.</span></div>

<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Acrylic paint comes in small paint bottles or tubes in virtually any color imaginable. Embellish your wooden letters with your own hand-painted designs or use painter's tape and stencils. Match your acrylic paint to bedding, textiles, or other elements of your room design. When you know how to mix paint colors using the artist's <a href="http://www.color-wheel-artist.com/"><span class="s2">color wheel</span></a>, you can easily create a close enough match.</span></span></div>

<span class="s1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Step 3</span></span></div>

<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I decided to mount Julia’s first pair of shoes in a shadowbox. This way, the shoes are not only preserved, but also could be worn again by her child if she so chooses . . . plus, they make a fairly attractive display item that we can enjoy every day.</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First, I gathered my supplies:</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 shadowbox with a 12×16 interior space</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 can of black spray paint</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 piece of mat board</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 sheet of handmade 20×30 paper</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">chipboard letters to spell out Julia’s name</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 sheet of 20×20 black cardstock</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Julia’s baby shoes</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1. Finding an appropriate shadowbox turned out to be quite an adventure. It had to be large enough to hold Julia’s shoes in length and width, but also in-depth. After measuring the height of one of the shoes, I figured I needed a shadowbox that is 2 1/2″ deep. I also preferred a wooden frame in black so that it would match the rest of the frames in our house. I was unable to find a shadowbox that fit all my criteria. So, I improvised! I found one that had all the right dimensions, but was silver (this is where the spray paint comes in!). I took the glass off the shadowbox and removed the back and then spray painted everything black – including the small strips of wood that hold the glass in place from behind.</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2. Since the inside of the shadowbox is not a standard mat size, I was unable to find a pre-cut one. So, I bought a sheet of artist’s board, cut it to size, and then cut an opening in the center of it. The finished mat is 2″ wide on all sides. </span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3. To give the mat a nicer finish, I decided to wrap it in handmade paper. The design in the paper doesn’t show up well in the photo, but it’s a cream-colored paper with little silver silk threads running through it. I found this paper at Hobby Lobby in the pre-cut mat section – it’s actually intended for wrapping mats. I taped the mat I had made to the wrong side of the paper and then cut slits in the paper from one corner to its opposite, making an “X” inside the mat opening. Then, I pulled the paper tight around the mat and held it in place using double-sided tape. Essentially, I wrapped the mat the same way you would upholster a seat cushion or wrap a present.</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4. To create more depth in the shadow box, I then cut strips of black foam core (the kind that is black in the center as well) and adhered them around the outside perimeter on the backside of the wrapped mat. This way, once the mat was adhered to the back of the shadowbox, it would look as if it is suspended above the backing.</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5 Next, I covered the backing of the shadowbox with the black cardstock using double-sided tape.</span></div>
<div style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">6. At this point, all that was left was to adhere the letters of Julia’s name and her shoes to the backing of the shadowbox. I used double-sided tape to hold the letters on and since the shoes are relatively heavy, I used a double-sided foam tape to hold those on. Then I just popped the glass back in the frame, slid the backing into position, and it was ready to be hung or sit handsomely on a shelf.</span></div>

<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">Enter my decision to make two newborn shadow boxes with all of our keepsakes from the hospital.</span></span></div>

<div class="p4">

<ul>
<li><span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">Hospital hat and kimono top (the ones given to us by the hospital)</span></li>

<li><span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">The socks the babies wore home from the hospital (so small!)</span></li>
<li><span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">A photo from the night they were born – I edited the pictures and reduced the color saturation level by about 50%</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="p4">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">I bought two shadow boxes from Michaels during a BOGO sale as well as pink & blue scrapbook paper and two little wooden letters – R and B. </span></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">
I painted the letters pink and blue to match the paper I would be mounting some of my keepsakes on.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">First, I arranged everything on the back board – walking away and coming back with fresh eyes to make sure I liked the positioning of all my items. I decided to do a mirror image of my first arrangement in the second shadow box. This way the boxes are not too similar.</span></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">I displayed my two newborn shadow boxes outside the nursery. This was for several reasons. One: I’m not a big fan of hanging newborn pictures in the nursery itself. I think the nursery should be a room for the babies to grow in, explore, and enjoy. Two: I wanted to keep the shadow boxes close to the nursery as a reminder of how much they have grown and changed. Three: The corner just outside the nursery was pretty empty looking.</span></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: small;">My sister gave us a collage frame filled with newborn and baptism pictures, which I decided to hang on the opposite wall from the shadow boxes. I love this project, and constantly find myself looking over at the keepsakes and telling myself I can’t believe just how tiny they were, and how blessed we are to have two happy and healthy babies in our lives.</span></span></div>

So being that we live in Salt Lake City, we decided to get some wood blocks that say SLC and put a photo</span></span></div>

Luckily I have a very talented husband who was able to put all the images together for me in a collage using photoshop, so I only had to make a few cuts. If you are unable to do this, you can easily still create the same look just by printing out your pictures individually and cutting them to fit how you like. Apply mod podge to the wood and then place the images on top, so it will be glued on to the wood. Let dry. Then using an X-Acto knife, I trimmed the edges of the pictures that were hanging over the wood.</span></span></div>

This will help to secure the images on even stronger and it gives it a nice glossy finish to everything. When I made my DIY Wood Photo Block, I applied mod podge over the top of the image instead of the Polyurethane. <li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Start by painting your frame white and leave to dry.</span></li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Meanwhile paint your letters with a layer of gold paint. Once dry, paint them turquoise and leave to set.</span></li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Take your dried frame and start to sandpaper off the white paint to reveal the grey underneath to add a shabby chic look.</span></li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Repeat the process with the letters until you get the desired effect.</span></li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Take your chosen patterned paper and cut to size, then display in the frame – remove the glass.</span></li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">With your glue gun apply glue to the back of the letters and position in place.</span></li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Leave to dry and then display!</span></li>
</ol>
<br />
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #4a4a4a;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. Start by roughly sketching out your design on the letter in pencil first. I went for an animal/nature theme for my letters, but the possibilities are endless when it comes to designing your own letters.</span></div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #4a4a4a;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #4a4a4a;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. Go over your design using craft acrylic. Make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying the next one, and then leave to dry. </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">For a home decor project why not upcycle an old frame and create some unique and individual wall art for your home.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

Then maybe it's time to sort through that abundance of old baby clothes and create a beautiful keepsake...<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EQ24BlUT0VU/UPAko2UEkSI/AAAAAAAABGw/RN2SrPWss4M/s1600/Boys_memory_quilt+_keepsake_Blanket_hanging_700.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EQ24BlUT0VU/UPAko2UEkSI/AAAAAAAABGw/RN2SrPWss4M/s320/Boys_memory_quilt+_keepsake_Blanket_hanging_700.jpg" width="96" /></a>The start of a New Year tends to bring out the organized side in many of us, whether it be re-organising the kitchen cupboards, making room in the playroom / bedroom for the abundance of new toys or the arduous task of re-arranging the attic.<br />
<br />
So what better time than now, to start sifting through all those old baby clothes that you haven't had the heart to let go of, but you know won't ever be worn again.<br />
<br />
Even worse, you are unlikely to ever see them, except in the instance that you <u>are</u> organising the attic!<br />
<br />
We wouldn't suggest being ruthless and giving them <u><b>all </b></u>away but instead why not pick your absolute favourites and consider turning them into a stylish patchwork quilt, blanket or cushion full of special memories for you and your child?<br />
<br />
That way those pre-loved baby clothes that had been gathering dust in the attic can be transformed into a family heirloom that can be seen and treasured every day?<br />

I hope you all had a fab Christmas and for those of you on Crafts Forum that did Secret Santa - hope you all enjoyed the gifts that you received. <br />
<br />
We had a great Christmas and our special guests helped to make it one to remember... it certainly had the desired affect when a huge remote controlled, helium-filled shark and Nemo came 'swimming' through the air in the lounge. Much to the delight of the kids - especially the biggest kids!<br />

We have set ourselves several new years resolutions this year, one of which is to start celebrating more occasions with our keepsake gifts. First up is Valentines day. Admittedly we don't have long to complete our designs and start promoting them but we are on the way. <br />
<br />
Here's a first glimpse at our little 'I Love You' valentines owl. He / she is just missing the eyes and personalisation - which can either be I Love you on the front or a name (or other short message). We will also be giving customers the option to add a message to the back of the owl. Finished pictures will be posted soon!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kIaahutmqFg/UPPmx938jEI/AAAAAAAABH0/qJSxPJHHOrE/s1600/wooden_owl_i_love_you_red_keepsake_valentines_gift_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kIaahutmqFg/UPPmx938jEI/AAAAAAAABH0/qJSxPJHHOrE/s200/wooden_owl_i_love_you_red_keepsake_valentines_gift_500.jpg" width="186" /> </a></div>
<br />
We have lots of other items in the pipeline, which are being designed not only to celebrate Valentines Day but also for weddings and anniversaries to give as gifts or to create your own special keepsake. Here's just one of them - free standing wooden hearts. We have a few ideas for these, but won't share them just yet - not until they've been tried and tested anyway. Hopefully we will be posting finished pictures of these next week too.<br />

The final project, which has admittedly been going on for some time, is a photo collage wooden letter plaque. This particular letter is free standing but can also be mounted to the wall. Again, hoping to post finished pictures next week. This particular letter is for "Daddy" but it could be any letter, any colour or any name. <br />

<br />
So needless to say, there is a lot to be getting on with this week! I'm going to head over to Handmade Monday this afternoon to see what everyone else has been up to. <br />

<br />
Our deep shadow box style frames are great for displaying precious keepsakes and 3d items. Most are 55mm deep and come with a box fixed to the back of the frame, which is easy to open and close using two screws. <br />
<br />
If you are looking to frame castings of your baby's hands or feet, their first comforter or even their first shoes - we think our box frames will fit the job. <br />

Our New Year's Resolutions!<b><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Happy 2013 !</span></span></b><br />
<br />
How is it already 11th January? I'm not sure how that happened so quickly but here we are, now wishing you a 'belated' Happy New Year! We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and for those that bought gifts from us, that they were well received. Thank you for all of your support throughout 2012 and we hope that we can continue to help you find the perfect keepsake gift in 2013. <br />
<br />
In keeping with New Year's tradition, we've decided to come up with some Resolutions for <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/index.asp" target="_blank">For Keep's Sake</a> in 2013 - all are based on giving more to our customers.<br />
<ol>
<li><b>Offers & Promotions</b>. We want to introduce regular monthly promotions to both our newsletter readers and Facebook fans. The offers will be promoted at different times of the month and the offer itself may differ completely. If you want to be kept updated with all of our offers, all you need to do is <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ForKeepsSake" target="_blank">Like us on Facebook</a> and Sign up to our Newsletter - which can be done through the signup button on the bottom left menu of our <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/index.asp" target="_blank">home page</a>. </li>
<li><b>More products & designs</b>. We are always looking to add new designs to our ranges, but in 2013 we want to give you <u>even more</u> variety through new designs and product lines. With this in mind, if you have anything specific that you have been looking for or any bespoke requests we are more than happy to look into them for you. </li>
<li><b>More Occasions</b>. Many of our personalised gifts and keepsakes are baby-related but this year we want to broaden this to include any occasion where a special keepsake will be treasured. We are already working on ideas for Valentines Day and will also be here to help you with some gift inspiration and special keepsakes for Mother's Day and Father's Day. </li>
<li><b>Loyalty Points Scheme</b>. We want to start rewarding customers that shop with us time and time again. We will be launching a loyalty point scheme imminently to say thank you and to start giving something back to all of our loyal customers. </li>
</ol>
So these are our resolutions. We've limited them to four to help us stick to them. We are really excited about all of our plans for 2013 and want to make this year, our year, for giving back to you.<br />
<br />
Do you have any New Year's Resolutions on either a personal or business level? We'd love to hear them if you do - just leave a comment.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading and here's to an exciting 2013!<br />
<br />
Lots of love<br />

The answer is actually different for both, as we use a different process for collecting the prints. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span>
<u><b><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Fingerprint Jewellery</span></span></b></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4yu0RGHyM-4/ULX6VKSfbwI/AAAAAAAABF0/dBOmkks4RgQ/s1600/fingerprint_bracelet_curb_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4yu0RGHyM-4/ULX6VKSfbwI/AAAAAAAABF0/dBOmkks4RgQ/s200/fingerprint_bracelet_curb_1.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Fingerprint
kits include a putty like substance which is pressed onto and molded around
the finger to create the print impression. The print that is transferred onto the charm is the exact replica of the print taken - so the finished print will look identical. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Each child is different and develops at their own rate, but generally speaking their fingerprints don't become properly defined until they are around 6 months. We therefore recommend that customers wait until a baby is 6 months old before taking a fingerprint - or that the customer takes a handprint or footprint instead. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></span><br />
<u><b><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Handprint / Footprint Jewellery </span></span></b></u><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9oPtXBKCzWU/ULX6XcQ9YqI/AAAAAAAABGE/v5fcv6KEWuY/s1600/fingerprint_jewellery_charm_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9oPtXBKCzWU/ULX6XcQ9YqI/AAAAAAAABGE/v5fcv6KEWuY/s200/fingerprint_jewellery_charm_4.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">There is much more flexibility with the handprint / footprint jewellery. These require
a (mess-free) inkless print kit</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">to take the print - which is then shrunk to size, to fit the charm. There is therefore no minimum or maximum age for handprint / footprint jewellery, it can be used for new borns, through to 100+ year olds! This means you can even use two prints on the one charm<span style="font-size: small;">, which is not possible f<span style="font-size: small;">or <span style="font-size: small;">fingerprint jewellery.</span></span></span></span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">If you already
have a print (that you can email or post)<span style="font-size: small;"> we </span>can <span style="font-size: small;">even use this <span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;">to </span></span></span>produce your silver hand print or footprint jewellery. </span></span><br />

We're certainly feeling the lead up to Christmas, so much so that this is my first Handmade Monday post in a few weeks. <br />
<br />
As well as getting busier with Christmas orders, we've also been attending lots of fairs, markets and shopping events, as well as creating lots of new designs for our range of <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/personalised-christmas-decorations-44-c.asp" target="_blank">personalised Christmas decorations</a>.<br />
<br />
You may remember a post a while back, showcasing the first of our decorations - these have been really popular, particularly our cute reindeer: <br />

Lastly, I wanted something different for my two girls that we could bring out every year and use in either their bedroom, playroom or our lounge - so I made them each a free standing Christmas name plaque:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So yes, been very busy (much like the sound of everyone else on <a href="http://handmadeharbour.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Handmade Monday</a>) and are preparing to (hopefully!) get even busier, before a much needed Christmas break!<br />

When we were asked to make one of our hanging butterfly plaques for a mother who had sadly lost her child at the age of 2, we were really touched and hugely honoured to be asked to make something so special and with such significant meaning. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kmUdkbyEdh8/UJgOEETL80I/AAAAAAAABBw/itskUkGqGpA/s1600/NamePlaqueHangingSmallButterfly500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kmUdkbyEdh8/UJgOEETL80I/AAAAAAAABBw/itskUkGqGpA/s200/NamePlaqueHangingSmallButterfly500.jpg" width="200" /></a><img border="0" height="169" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rxuHZAE0vBI/UJgOCDxe8JI/AAAAAAAABBo/PgbwXo9ShnE/s200/NamePlaqueHangingSmallButterflyGrn500.jpg" width="200" /></div>
<br />
At the customer's
request (a friend of the mum) we were asked to keep the butterfly as
white as possible but still personalise it with the name. This was the result - both our customer and Sammy's mum were really pleased with the butterfly plaque, which was simple, but beautiful. <br />

Thank you for letting us be part of something so special. xx<br />

You may recall that we mentioned they were the <b>first</b> of a new series of designs - with many more coming. This is still the case, but it's taken a little longer than anticipated, following what I can only refer to as a creative block! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PpQKYzdTs3I/UGn0HwhovOI/AAAAAAAAA24/zzMCyyO0juM/s1600/wooden_name_plaques_free_standing_new_designs_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PpQKYzdTs3I/UGn0HwhovOI/AAAAAAAAA24/zzMCyyO0juM/s1600/wooden_name_plaques_free_standing_new_designs_.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We were so pleased with the owls, birds and elephants that we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make sure that the next part of our project - i.e. the giraffes and dinosaurs - came out just as well. <br />
<br />
It took a couple of weeks to get this far:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rW2XzeLEsQ4/UGn00HFMZ-I/AAAAAAAAA3A/tdcJzfny37o/s1600/wooden_name_plaques_Dinosaur_giraffe_Colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rW2XzeLEsQ4/UGn00HFMZ-I/AAAAAAAAA3A/tdcJzfny37o/s320/wooden_name_plaques_Dinosaur_giraffe_Colours.jpg" width="286" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had selected the potential colours that we liked and then....... nothing....... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
.......until now. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hurrah!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Personalised Dinosaurs Gifts / Name Plaques </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P_grcXgtV9I/UHL6iYYOm7I/AAAAAAAABA0/b3FclvorsFU/s1600/wooden_dinosaur_name_plaques_both_green_1000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P_grcXgtV9I/UHL6iYYOm7I/AAAAAAAABA0/b3FclvorsFU/s320/wooden_dinosaur_name_plaques_both_green_1000.jpg" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Keeping in theme with our <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/product/Dinosaur_Wooden_Letters_-_Green_BWDN-DBDINO-20CM-6MM" target="_blank">dinosaur wooden wall letters</a>, we thought it made sense to stick with green and beige and spots! The look just as cute on their own as they do together.<br />
<br />
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Personalised Giraffes Gifts / Name Plaques</b><br />
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tE6aCXcAh3g/UHL6n_YK58I/AAAAAAAABA8/YU6PGe5YDbM/s1600/Wooden_Giraffe_Name_Plaque_orrnament_Both_1000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tE6aCXcAh3g/UHL6n_YK58I/AAAAAAAABA8/YU6PGe5YDbM/s320/Wooden_Giraffe_Name_Plaque_orrnament_Both_1000.jpg" width="293" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We thought we'd try out the giraffes in beige and cream - but they can of course be painted in blues or any other colours. We love the small splashes of colour on them that really brighten them up. The giraffes would make fab gifts for new babies and christenings.<br />
<br />
Well, after such a long wait, we hope we didn't disappoint....!<br />

Well, I wasn't sure I was even going to make it this week. Things have been busy as usual and this last week included the 1st birthday of a gorgeous little boy called Archie. <br />
<br />
With it being such a big birthday and the fact that his parents are very close friends of mine, I wanted to give him something special and of course something that he could keep. So needless to say, I made his birthday presents ;o)<br />
<br />
Archie's dad loves football and is a fireman, giving me two themes. Archie's mum and I opted for the Fireman / Transport theme - for what seems like obvious reasons to us. (Football.....bah!)<br />
<br />
This is what he got:<br />
<br />
<br />
<h4>
Fire Engine Name Plaque / Door Sign </h4>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IXmSa_G6VSY/UHLtnuk_a5I/AAAAAAAAA-8/A8Rx4Gf6YY0/s1600/NamePlaqueFireEngine1000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="name plaques door sign plate handpainted wooden personalised gifts " border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IXmSa_G6VSY/UHLtnuk_a5I/AAAAAAAAA-8/A8Rx4Gf6YY0/s320/NamePlaqueFireEngine1000.jpg" title="Fire Engine Name Plaques / Door Signs - Birthday Gifts" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/product/Fire_Engine%3A_Large_Name_Plaque_NP-LG-FENG" target="_blank">Fire Engine Name Plaque</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A fire engine name plaque for his bedroom door. Slight confession.... I actually made this a couple of months ago for him, but ended up holding onto it to show at a couple of craft fairs we attended (the shame....!). It was definitely time to hand it over!</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<h4 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Transport Themed Wooden Wall Letters</h4>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J5WpKgYLXyo/UHLtx2JdwFI/AAAAAAAAA_E/ofM0eDJHwXU/s1600/wooden_wall_letters_georgia_transport_archie_1000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="wooden wall letters boys nursery bedroom transport car " border="0" height="122" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J5WpKgYLXyo/UHLtx2JdwFI/AAAAAAAAA_E/ofM0eDJHwXU/s400/wooden_wall_letters_georgia_transport_archie_1000.jpg" title="Archie's Wooden Wall Letters - Transport Theme" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also made some transport themed wooden letters for his bedroom wall. The letters are 20cm high (size of the capital letters) hand painted in royal blue and decorated with individually hand painted wooden vehicle shapes - including a fire engine, of course!</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<h4 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Personalised Wooden Trains</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-porBNDTwRlE/UHLw4J43-EI/AAAAAAAAA_w/x8YMrIltNb4/s1600/wooden_train_name_plaque_ornament_small_and_large_1000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Personalised Handmade Wooden Trains - Gifts Ornament Decoration" border="0" height="227" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-porBNDTwRlE/UHLw4J43-EI/AAAAAAAAA_w/x8YMrIltNb4/s320/wooden_train_name_plaque_ornament_small_and_large_1000.jpg" title="Personalised Handmade Wooden Trains - Gifts Ornament Decoration" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, we've wanted to add trains to our new free standing personalised plaques / ornaments so this was a perfect time to come up with a design. As with the other plaques, there was a small and large train - which can be bought separately, but for Archie I wanted to use them as a set to spell out his whole name. The thing I love most about these is that they can sit almost anywhere in a room; on a shelf, bookcase, windowsill or chest of drawers. I also loved the bunting used on the fire engine and thought it would look cute on the trains too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bNv5IIqbsmA/UHLx14nEbII/AAAAAAAABAA/PcQu20UaCPA/s1600/Weebles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bNv5IIqbsmA/UHLx14nEbII/AAAAAAAABAA/PcQu20UaCPA/s200/Weebles.jpg" width="200" /></a>Realising that Archie is 1 and way too young to appreciate / notice (!) any of these gifts, I also bought him some weebles - so that he still had something to open and throw around the floor! These were his favourite, of the gifts!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I opened the door to the postman on Thursday and was presented with this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9yrurIQmWvM/UHLzt6azh4I/AAAAAAAABAI/T6K482gfKcU/s1600/wooden_shapes2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9yrurIQmWvM/UHLzt6azh4I/AAAAAAAABAI/T6K482gfKcU/s320/wooden_shapes2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
You'll be able to spot the trains in there, as well as some new and old shapes. The new ones have kept me busy (and messy) all weekend. Will be showing some pictures in the next post.<br />
<br />
So now we're at the beginning of another week that is likely to fly past as quickly as the last, I'm going to visit handmade Monday to see what else has been happening in the crafting world! <br />

And the next projects!When I opened the door to finally see the postman standing in front of me with a large parcel, I knew it could only be one thing. The box of wooden shapes that I had been waiting, not so patiently, for. <br />
<br />
Since launching our new range of personalised name plaques (shown at the bottom of this post) and <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/category/Personalised_Christmas_Decorations,i.html" target="_blank">personalised Christmas decorations</a>, we've been dying to get our hands on more shapes so that we can come up with even more designs, in time for the busy festive season!<br />
<br />
So here it is..... and there is more to come!! I can't wait to get working on these and have a feeling that my hands / hair / clothes will be covered in splashes of paint all weekend!! <br />

<span style="color: #444444;">Memory quilts are a fantastic way to cherish and preserve pre-loved clothes and other fabric items that hold a special place in your heart. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">There will undoubtedly be some clothes that you want to keep in one piece, but there may be a number of other items that you want to keep but are just collecting dust in the attic. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">This is where memory quilts and blankets offer the perfect solution.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<h4>
<span style="color: #444444;">What are Memory Quilts?</span></h4>
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/category/Memory_Keepsake_Quilts___Blankets,i.html" target="_blank">Memory quilts</a> are created using a range of a customers' pre-loved clothes. In most cases, mainly baby clothes for a child that is growing up, but we also get asked to make them for families in memory of a loved one. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-97lFyUlH3h4/UGs5vPd8qhI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/ZtFsh_SdO_k/s1600/Memory-Quilt-keepsake-baby-clothes-girls-close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="memory keepsake quilts blankets patchwork quilting baby clothes" border="0" height="133" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-97lFyUlH3h4/UGs5vPd8qhI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/ZtFsh_SdO_k/s200/Memory-Quilt-keepsake-baby-clothes-girls-close.jpg" title="Memory Keepsake Quilts - Patchwork Blankets from Baby Clothes" width="200" /></a><span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">Styles and designs will vary according to who you buy your memory blanket from, but at <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/" target="_blank">For Keep's Sake</a> they are all patchwork quilts, that are carefully designed using separate blocks from your items of clothing. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">They come in a variety of sizes and make a great keepsake as well as special item with an everyday use!</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<h4>
</h4>
<br />
<h4>
<span style="color: #444444;">How are Memory Quilts Made?</span></h4>
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j3A3YxQtYs0/UGs5rFHytSI/AAAAAAAAA5I/q1kFPQVr1BM/s1600/memory_quilt_keepsake_+blanket_extra_example_applique_personalisation.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="memory keepsake quilts blankets patchwork quilting baby clothes" border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j3A3YxQtYs0/UGs5rFHytSI/AAAAAAAAA5I/q1kFPQVr1BM/s200/memory_quilt_keepsake_+blanket_extra_example_applique_personalisation.jpg" title="Memory Keepsake Quilts - Patchwork Blankets from Baby Clothes" width="200" /></a><span style="color: #444444;">As I said, this does vary depending on where you get your quilt made. But we believe that the clothes should be an integral part of the blanket
pattern, rather than looking as though they've been thrown together and sewn on. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">We carefully cut blocks from the clothes to
create a stunning patchwork quilt that not only looks fantastic but maintains
its' special sentiment. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">We can also add extra detail to the blanket where we use different sized
blocks of clothing and traditional patchwork patterns, as well as lots of extra
details such as modified necklines, buttons, frills and re-applique of small
motifs. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">Quilts and blankets can even be personalised with a name and a photo. Each memory quilt is a true one-of a kind keepsake.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />

<h4>
<span style="color: #444444;">Things to consider before purchasing a Memory Quilt</span></h4>
<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">If you are looking into getting your own memory quilt or blanket made, here are a few things it may be worth considering, to make sure you are pleased with the end result:</span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #444444;">When looking for a company, it's important that you like the style of the quilter. Not everyone's style will suit yours, so it would be a good idea to see photos of their work and make sure it meets your expectations.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #444444;">Consider the price. There is no need to pay over the odds, but if a company is charging a lot less than other competing companies - consider the quality of the materials they use when creating their quilts and also the time they tend to spend on designing and making them. </span></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #444444;">You are choosing to cut up your favourite pieces of clothing to create a special keepsake that you want to last. This is another reason why your quilter will need to use good quality materials to create the quilt. </span></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #444444;">It's also important that you find out if the fabrics will be stabilized, the type of wadding that they use and how the quilt will be finished (i.e. is it properly quilted) as these factors will all have the biggest bearing on the life and quality of your quilt.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #444444;">Make sure you know exactly what you are getting. Are you getting a patchwork quilt or a quilt that features whole pieces of baby clothes within in? What do you want?</span></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333;"><span style="color: #444444;">Finally, most quilters will understand how important this purchase is to you and will make themselves available to you to answer any questions or to discuss any questions you may have. Make sure you find someone that is happy to do this, so you are left confident that the end product will be just as you desire! </span></span></li>

This meant that after years of having toys littered everywhere, we could finally look forward to reclaiming our lounge and closing the door on the mess.<br />
<br />
6 months on.... and despite my best intentions to create a wonderful space for the kids, where they can relax, play and enjoy time with their friends, we / I haven't got very far. All I've done is throw their toys in the room and lost hours pondering ideas on <a href="http://pinterest.com/Forkeepssake/playroom/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>!<br />
<br />
In all fairness, they've spent most of the summer outside so we've not had much need for it, but now the weather is turning it's time to crack on. Here are some pics of how it looks now..... and I'm <strong><u>really</u></strong> <strong><u>hoping</u></strong> to be able so share some photos of the finished room in a few weeks time. <br />
<br />

<h4 class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Plan</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am fortunate enough to have a very good close friend who has a natural flair for interior design and an excellent knack for making the most of the space in a room. She kindly sketched a proposed plan of the room - after I told her how I wanted it to be used. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My vision is a 'little peoples' lounge / den with a small sofa and TV and a comprehensive storage system that would organise their toys in a way that they could see what they had and actually want to play with them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The plan:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gMnNAiYafNc/UGwFE4eNGaI/AAAAAAAAA7c/eUCqawOIXAE/s1600/project_playroom_plan_right_wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="playroom decorating storage ideas" border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gMnNAiYafNc/UGwFE4eNGaI/AAAAAAAAA7c/eUCqawOIXAE/s320/project_playroom_plan_right_wall.jpg" title="Project Playroom - Plan!! Decorating & Storage Ideas" width="237" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In place of the ridiculously large dolls house that<br />
has barely been played with, will be a small sofa</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yW_VhSwzuu4/UGwFD1QX9fI/AAAAAAAAA7U/OPoM-4Gur28/s1600/project_playroom_plan_cupboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="playroom decorating storage ideas" border="0" height="278" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yW_VhSwzuu4/UGwFD1QX9fI/AAAAAAAAA7U/OPoM-4Gur28/s320/project_playroom_plan_cupboard.jpg" title="Project Playroom - Plan!! Decorating & Storage Ideas" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">We have different options for the cupboard but it will more <br />
than likely become a cubed storage area with dedicated<br />
space to all the dress up clothes, shoes, bags etc</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rq0OWd8twPc/UGwFCr9LmJI/AAAAAAAAA7M/mbt2I3mlVuU/s1600/project_playroom_plan_2jpg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="playroom decorating storage ideas" border="0" height="292" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rq0OWd8twPc/UGwFCr9LmJI/AAAAAAAAA7M/mbt2I3mlVuU/s400/project_playroom_plan_2jpg.jpg" title="Project Playroom - Plan!! Decorating & Storage Ideas" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And on the wall as you open the door, there will be yet more storage as well <br />
as space to have the television, dvd etc. With even more storage behind the door.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't wait to see how it's going to turn out. I'm going to paint it white, to keep it fresh, bright and feeling spacious - and will accessorise with lots of gorgeous colours. No doubt, I'll end up making the odd canvas and some wooden letters for it too!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So now I've talked about doing it, I'm going to have to get a move on! Will post some pics as / when (if ??) progress is made :o) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

If you have something special that you want to display in a <a href="http://www.forkeepssake.co.uk/category/Keepsake_Frames,i.html" target="_blank">deep box frame</a>, you may be wondering what you should use to fix the item(s) to the back of the frame.<br />
<br />
There are a number of options, which we've listed in this post, but depending on what your keepsake is, it may be worth further research to ensure that it won't get damaged or eroded by your chosen method.<br />
<strong></strong><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><strong>Sticky Velcro </strong>can generally be used for lightweight items and
some heavier items - the back of the packet should give you an indication of the weight that it can carry. The Velcro can be pulled apart - using one part to stick to the back of the frame and the other part to stick to the keepsake - allowing you to fix the two
bits of Velcro together.
</li>
<li><strong>Sticky fixers</strong> are a simple and effective way of securing lightweight items in place. Again you should get an indication of the weight they will hold from the packet and you will find a whole range including permanent and
non-permanent fixers. Have a look around to see which is best for your item . We use permanent sticky fixers to hold our chunky wooden letters securely on walls and they can hold a good weight.</li>
<li><strong>Glue</strong> - there is an abundance of different kinds of adhesive on the market - it may be worth visiting a craft shop to see what is available and what is best for your keepsake. Glues will range from normal PVA, paper glue, hold melt glue to many more.
</li>
<li><strong>Strong or permanent glue</strong> such as superglue may be best for heavier items, such as baby castings. You may even find that a builders’
adhesive works well for really heavy items - but if you are not looking for a
permanent solution or are framing a precious or valuable item, this is not the
best option.
</li>
<li><strong>Screws </strong>can be used if you want to hang something from
inside the frame, such as a medal or necklace. Try to use a small screw to avoid going through the back of the
frame. You can always cover the strew head with a button or embellishment such as a bow.
</li>
<li><strong>Sewing items</strong> is an option if you are looking to add
fabric to the back of the frame. This could be another option for medals or perhaps displaying spoons. You
would need to sew the item onto the fabric before fixing the fabric to the back
of the frame, as the mdf back will already be stapled to the box of the frame.
</li>
